Re: Please help! Infected Wound - could lose leg

What's scary is that the infected wound is not far from (6-8") the screw the ortho MD put into my ankle on 8/2, and my left foot is still quite swollen from that. The ER MD wants to make sure the infection doesn't spread to that, and AFAIK, it will not. If it does, I may be in a heap of trouble.

I have a feeling it will be OK since he cleaned the area well and it has Iodosorb on it, and I eat a lot of garlic. and take cayenne to improve circulation. I do exercises with my feet in the air, I do like I'm pedaling a bicycle.

Was thinking of pointing a finger at the Ortho MDs office for not giving me typed instructions how to take care of this wound, but I think I need to try to believe in them. I tapped to try to get rid of the feeling that they hope I'll fail. The on call Ortho MD that called seemed to have his heart in the right place.

I would have liked to talk to my Ortho MD at my last appt. but for some reason he just poked his head into my exam room for a brief moment and then said he has another patient to tend to. It seems to me that I have injuries serious enough to warrant talking to him about whatever I need to talk about. How is anyone supposed to learn or know how to treat a slow healing, draining wound? Did I do a screw up or was it them, or both of us? I have a feeling their way of doing things could use some improvement. I live alone and I don't have a healing family to offer good advice in this.
