Re: Vitamin D appears to be 800% more effective than vaccines at preventing influenza
Symptoms was a typo. If you read the article linked to inside the article in question it says only that vaccines have only 1% efficacy. Nothing is said about symptoms. Thus 8% versus 1% efficacy in preventing influenza is indeed 800% better. Attention grabber or not, it is nevertheless true.
I understand the thought process that vitamin D must somehow be dangerous since it has so many mainstream studies vouching for it; however, in this instance I refuse to put on my tinfoil hat. I have seen absolutely zero credible evidence, despite the pick and choose articles cobbled together by the Trevor Marshall crowd, which indicates that reasonable doses of supplementary vitamin D3 are in any way harmful for the vast majority of people.
Sure, Vitamin D3 from sunshine is best and most natural, followed by fish oil supplements (which can themselves be dicey if you aren't careful as to quality and manufacturer). But, in lieu of those two, supplementation of Vitamin D3 is much preferred over being deficient in D3 and the evidence is simply overwhelming.
And, despite the use of the term "immune suppressing", the correct term for sensible levels of Vitamin D3 is IMMUNO-MODULATORY. For those who are Vitamin D deficient, supplementary Vitamin D3 activates the immune system, not suppresses it.
