Read "John Sarno: The Mind Body Connection"
You might want to pick up a copy of this book from the local library as I did. It was a real eye openner for me as to the power of the mind and emotion over the body.
The general gist of the book is that the human brain instinctively suppresses emotional conflict on a subconcious level. Instead of dealing with this rage and conflict directly, the brain creates psychosomatic distractions in the form of physiological symptoms, including back pain, GI pain, depression, anxiety, etc. It's sort of a subconcsious sleight of hand; you focus on the physical pain manifestation rather than the root emotional cause.
It's helped me immensely in the past couple of weeks. My doctor prescribed carafate for my gastritis, in addition to the nexium I was already taking. After starting the book, I stopped taking the nexium and didn't even bother with the carafate, realizing that I was creating most of my stomach problems in my head. I haven't looked back. I hope this helps.
