Re: Vektek, define Legalism, please

The definition of legalism is again the belief that you are saved by your own works, your own merit. In other words if someone gets to heaven it's because they did good works in this life, and they kept the commandments good enough to qualify for heaven, etc.

The true meaning of God will judge us worthy or unworthy is this according to the bible: If we are believers in Christ and we have put our trust in Him and not in ourselves, we will be considered worthy. If we are not believers and have not put our trust in Christ, we will not be considered worthy. Now God knows who is a true believer or not, and so he is not deceived as we are by those who call themselves believers, but really are not.
And so God is the real judge, and He decides who is saved and who is not, and it is not based on our works.
Jesus came to die for our sins, to remove our debt to God because of our transgressions. If our trust and belief is in Christ, then we are saved. It's that simple.
We can't add to the gift of salvation with anything we do. It is a gift and it is by grace alone, and not of works, lest anyone could boast.

Now one last thing. If we have been given the gift of salvation, and the Holy Spirit has been given to us, then we will have good works in our lives resulting from God's work in us.

I hope this answers your question good enough this time. :)
