I didn't write that post - Norris Chumley wrote it who authors a column on Beliefnet.com.
I, too, avoid religion but enjoy spirituality. Religion to me is like a middleman between me and God. That's one of the reasons I like fasting due to it enhancing the spiritual side so much. It wasn't until I did a long term fast that I realized firsthand the strength fasting has on one's spiritual side.
It's also why when I see negative comment made about spiritual matters in conjunction to fasting by persons that do not fast for extended periods, I find it frustrating because often when people get more in touch with who they really are, they become better people to themselves, the people surrounding them and the world at large.
Fasting is not a cure all for everything but it sure does take you far towards your ultimate goals.
