Trysten, nobody would argue with you that the way that animals are treated is reprehensible. In fact, you are backing up my stance that vegetarianism is spurred on by compassion.
There's no need to get defensive, Nobody here is attacking you for your dietary choices. Some of us have made different choices though.
I've been a vegetarian twice, does not work, for me. My system cannot handle the high amounts of carbohydrates that being a vegetarian entails. I do much better on a diet of animal foods, fruits, vegs, and small amounts of grains. I got fat being a vegetarian, a friend of mine got HUGE.
So, I try to consume, yes, organic, grass-fed, free-range. It's the best I can do.
Eating a diet that supports MY health is the most life-affirming thing that I can do. I will not sacrifice my health because of abstract feelings of compassion. If others choose to do this, so be it.
If your diet supports your health, that's the benchmark, IMO.
