I don't know if this organization is broad based or not, and I'll have to read through the FDA site again. I just scanned it quickly. I think the jacking up of prices comes from the aspect that someone has to prove their claims on packaging. If you don't make a claim, you don't have to prove it. If I grow garlic I can't claim it lowers cholesterol. It does not prevent me from selling it at 39 cents as garlic. On the other hand, if someone claims they are selling Himalayan Salt, I sure would like to be reassured it isn’t rock salt.
