Hi mrs. labatts-I too am having to have my Mirena IUD removed because it is in the fatty tissue of my abdominal cavity. I only had my inserted in May 06 and I too am a nursing mother and was assured that this is a wise and safe choice by the mid-wife that did the insertion. I did not feel the strings after about a week, but I was told initially that they may wrap around the uterus. I did go back for my 6 week checkup but she could not find the strings, so the office scheduled an ultrasound 2 weeks later. I took it upon myself to go to a diagnostic clinic. I went through the vaginal ultrasound, X-ray, systology histrograom and CT scan. The CT scan showed the IUD not in my uterus. The dr's office now thinks that I need to come in as soon as possible to get it removed with laproscopy, because it can cause scar tissue damage the bowel and such. I am also not happy with the ordeal-there is very little information about not haveing one while breastfeeding. I am sorry that you had the problems that you did, but I wanted you to know that you are not in this alone. Thank you for sharing with others. I am now stressed about having this thing removed. Take care.
