I take ALA, but in a very cautious way. I have only done 2 rounds with it. I start DMSA, my usual 25 mg, every 4 hours, and mid round I introduce ALA, 2 or 3 mg, yes 3, that is not a typo! Remember I was very badly messed up by ALA when my fillings were in, so I have a greater than average fear of it.

When I introduce the ALA, I change the schedule to every 3 hours for both the 25 mg DMSA and the 3 mg ALA, for both, which I take at the same time together. I do about 6 to 8 doses like this, and then I go back to just the DMSA, so that the ALA is sandwiched (?) or buffered between just DMSA. After the first dose of DMSA alone 3 hours after ALA, I then switch back to 4 hours. I find the every 3 hours to be very inconvenient and tiring, and I am still a little leary of ALA. So that's my reason for doing it like that. I am thinking of doing more doses next time.
