I also always felt Krishnamurti was off-track (as much as I wanted to like him), but I'm guessing it's he that stole a page or two from the Budhhists. You're right about how that exposes our screwed up societies.
Of course Nietzsche always said that the only way human society could function was if we all remained in blissful denial of our mortality. As much as that makes sense intuitively, from personal experience, I've seen that the better more humane people were the ones that are strong enough to live life with their eyes open. But I'm depressed - what do I know?
