Src,
I know exactly where you are.
That was the beginning for me, on my own, for the first time ever, and scared spitless.
It may seem like it takes forever, sometimes, but you'll find pride and self-worth often, a bit at a time...realization by realization.
It takes about a year...for everyone...but there are very happy accomplishments along the way. The very fact that you are 'allowed' to be different than ever before in your life is a most wonderful realization.
Too, you'll find that you'll release the negatives, maybe just by putting your arms around yourself and saying, "There, there, little one...you'll be okay, I'll take care of you."
...That's the adult you are becoming, comforting the child. The subconscious doesn't care WHO does the comforting...just as long as it gets done.
You don't even have to remember all the reasons 'why', just say the words. You'll see.
And, about the parents...the adult you are becoming will soothe their scolding. "It's okay now...I can handle this. Be unafraid. I am in charge."
Many wonderful things are ahead for you, Src.
For example, you'll forget to be sad, sometimes. You'll even get caught up in the interesting things around you, and have to remind yourself to be gloomy. Think not? Well, there is a 'law', you know.
It's this...
No one, absolutely NO ONE, can cry forever. It's a physical impossibility!
If you need to shout and cry, okay...but put a time limit on it. Fifteen minutes - NO longer!
And get yourself a team to watch and listen, and to cheer when you do a particularly good rant.
NO advice allowed!!! All your team can do is cheer...for the fifteen minutes. Then you march to the bathroom and splash cold water on your face. All over. All done!
Now what's next on my list?
And tuck yourself into bed, safe in the knowledge that you can handle whatever comes.
In fact, you will come up smelling of roses. You'll see.
Pat yourself on your back with your beautiful hands. You are doing very well for one who didn't know how, just a short time ago.
All these nice things you do for yourself, as your own best friend, pay off, even if you don't believe, yet.
Do them anyhow. You deserve to be treated very, very nicely.
Do it, and it comes true.
When you find yourself doubting...laugh! And laugh in between times, just in case Fledgling is right.
It can't hurt...unless they come and take you away. (Grin!)
Besides, no one tells us one year from when!
You've been working on this for at least eight years.
How do I know that?
Well, you don't think you are the ONLY one, do you?
Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again! It's your privilege, and your joy!.
Happy, happy Christmas, Src!
With you!
Fledgling
