Robin Quivers doesn't mind when people comment on her 70-lb. weight loss. Just don't ask her if she's had "that operation" - i.e., gastric bypass surgery. "That's the most insulting thing," says Quivers, the long-running sidekick to shock jock Howard Stern. In fact, "I beg people not to have an operation!" she says. "They're never going to enjoy eating again."
Yet, if surgery seems extreme, Quivers's own weight-loss method seems nearly as drastic. The 51-year-old radio personality credits the controversial Master Cleanser fast - which can involve weeks of ingesting nothing except a lemon-juice and cayenne-pepper elixir - for her newly slim 145-lb. frame. But more importantly, she says the regimen is responsible for erasing the joint pain and fatigue that had plagued her for more than a decade. I've never felt this good about my body before," declares Quivers, who likens her extreme dieting - she has fasted for 21 consecutive days on three occasions - to "a spiritual journey." Says Quivers: "It's just a completely different way to be." The change has been evident to those who know her. "She's a whole different person, "says Howard Stern producer Gary Dell'Abate, "I've been with her 20 years, and I've never seen her this happy and confident."
Still, Quivers acknowledges that her unorthodox plan has its critics. Created by naturopath Stanley Burroughs, the Master Cleanser regime calls for fasting as a way of ridding the body of toxins. (Dr. Sam Klein, president of the American Society for Clinical Nutrition, disputes this claim and notes that, as with any extended fast, there is a risk of dehydration and electrolyte imbalance: "I would not recommend her approach.") In lieu of food, followers guzzle a concoction of fresh lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and water. "But this wasn't about weight loss," says Quivers, who traces her health problems to steroid-based medication that she took in 1989 to regulate her menstrual cycle, "I was really trying to regain my health, and that's what it did." It took a rock-bottom moment before Quivers would make a major change. In September 2002, near her peak weight of 218 lbs. and in despair about the way she looked and felt, she grudgingly attended a friend's wedding. When she tried to make an early exit, "Rebecca Romijn-Stamos grabbed me and said, 'No! You've got to dance with us!'" recalls Quivers. "I thought I was going to burst into tears. I'd never felt so horrible about my physical condition in my entire life."
One month later Quivers came across her solution when magician David Blaine was a guest on Stern's show and raved about the Master Cleanser. Having tried dozens of diets, Quivers decided to go for it. Downing her first glass of "lemonade," she says, "I was like, 'It doesn't taste so bad!'" Still, "I didn't expect to be able to go 24 hours without food."
But she did just that, and 24 hours stretched into 21 days. With each day, she says, "I was a little less stiff. I was sleeping better." All the while, she kept the fasting a secret from everyone but her longtime boyfriend, known to her fans as Mr. X. ("He's shy.")
Having since completed three such fasts, Quivers says she has a renewed appreciation for food: "I was eating a salad for the first time and going, 'Wow! This tastes like ice cream!'" Today she drinks the lemon potion throughout the day, eating a dinner of salad or fish and the occasional drink or snack. "Sometimes my body says, 'I want sugar,' and I eat sugar," she says. "But my body doesn't need as much food now."
These days she delights in shopping for her slimmed-down figure - "Now I'm a clotheshorse!" - and looking ahead to a potential talk show of her own. (As for Howard Stern, which has been yanked from several major stations, Quivers is sanguine: "It reminds me of the kid in school - we're still being sent to the principal's office.") No matter what, Quivers sees herself maintaining her newfound health for good. "This is my way of life now," she says. "I don't ever want to feel the way I felt ever again."

and a follow-up transcript from Howard Stern's radio program~~~
Howard said he checked out Robin's a-- earlier this morning in the nice pants she was wearing. That led to Howard talking about how Crazy Cabbie grabs him as he's going into the studio and won't let him get to work. Howard said that's when he saw Robin from behind and her a-- is tiny now compared to what it used to be. Robin said she's been working out now that she's lost weight. Howard said everyone is saying that Robin looks 30 now that she's lost the weight and all. Fred played Robin's theme music as they were talking about her work out and diet. Robin said she's in good enough shape to fit into a one piece bathing suit but not a bikini. Robin said she's about to go on another fast and she's asking some other people if they want to do it with her. She said she really believes in the diet she's on (The Master Cleanser) and wants to help other people out with it. Artie said that he'd go on the fast with her but when they told him that it means he can't eat anything, he seemed surprised. Howard told him he can drink this concoction of water, lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper as much as he wants. Robin said it tastes like a soft drink to her.
Robin said she's been running and weight training for a while now and she's really getting into shape. She said she's been rebounding as well so Howard thought she was playing basketball or something. She said it's jumping up and down on a trampoline, not playing basketball. Robin said she has been eating since losing 70 pounds since her body has a need for calories but now she's going to fast again. Howard said he loves asking Robin about her life because she's so enthusiastic about it when she's talking about it. Artie said she's like a superhero or something because she can drink that drink of hers and not eat anything. Robin said she really doesn't get hungry when she's on the fast and has only had as many as 6 of those drinks in one day. Howard asked her if she can put alcohol in the drink. She wondered that herself but hasn't tried it yet.
Stuttering John said he tried that diet and he had no energy when he was drinking that stuff. Robin said she didn't have a problem with energy loss though. John asked her if she consulted a doctor about working out while only drinking that drink. She said she went to doctors in the past and instead of getting better she'd get sicker. She did this on her own and made herself feel better.

HOWARD STERN SIDEKICK SECRET SHOCKS LISTENERS:
I ALMOST STARVED TO DEATH
By JOHN MAINELLI
May 24, 2003 -- HOWARD Stern sidekick Robin Quivers surprised listeners yesterday by announcing that her recent dramatic weight loss was the result of an intestinal condition she feared might kill her.
"I was dying," Quivers said, reluctant to talk about her illness until Stern pressed her for details. "I had a big problem. I was in really bad shape and really thought I was going to die."
Quivers said she suffered from what she called "inflammatory syndrome" but described symptoms that fit both Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome, the precise causes of which are unknown.
"I didn't eat, period," she said. "None of my system was working, so my body wasn't processing food at all - the food would just lie in my digestive tract.
"I was sick as a dog. I was even having heart palpitations," said Quivers, 50, who lost 60 pounds in the last few months. "I literally could not move - I was sluggish, full of water, and all my joints were aching."
Quivers revealed that, at one point, she went 21 days without eating solid food, subsisting on a liquid concoction recommended by magician David Blaine. "I thanked David profusely," she said. "I ran into him one day and said, 'You saved my life.' "
Quivers initially declined to disclose the ingredients in the syrupy, yellow liquid staffers had seen her drinking.
After prodding from Stern, she said it was "a very alkaline, acid-base balance" liquid that included real maple syrup, lemon juice, cayenne pepper and water. [Ed. - I believe this is the diet Robin used: Stanley Burroughs Master Cleanser. As usual, be careful, see your doctor before starting any diet, and I won't be held responsible for any results, good or bad!]
Quivers, who said she also suffers from hyperthyroidism, said she can now eat some solid food - but no bread, dairy products, most fruits or raw vegetables - and averages about a meal a day.
"I feel great - probably better than I have my entire life," she said. "But I could easily go back to the sick room any second. I have to stay on a strict regimen."

Billy Bob Thorton, Paris Hilton and Angelina Jolie~~~this article
Hot Peppers may prevent blood clots & heart disease & promote weight loss.
(from SICap Industries)
On the alternative medicine side, there's a popular capsaicin based drink that's being touted as an all around system cleaner. Known as "The Master Cleanser", it's one of the most popular recipes on the web with one of it's main ingredients being cayenne pepper. Many Hollywood stars use the Master Cleanser for weight loss, and for relieving many circulatory afflictions.
Robin Quivers of The Howard Stern Radio Show has lost 75 pounds, and regained her youthful energy since she started drinking the pepper based cocktail daily. Many insiders say Paris Hilton also credits the Master Cleanser with helping to maintain her toothpick thin figure. Actor / director Billy Bob Thorton and his ex-wife, Angelina Jolie also both reportedly use their own Master cleanser formula everyday. Thorton claims he's never even caught a cold since he's been using his daily dose of capsaicin.
Master Cleanser users claim the concoction of water, lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper also alleviates chronic stomach disorders, and helps to burn fat for prolonged periods.
