January 28, 2011

I had a rough night. I know it was the Brussels sprouts that I had with my dinner, as if I don't cook them just right, I get a lot of tummy upsetting gas, which I had. I didn't boil the Brussels spouts, I steamed them with my other veggies and my Salmon. It just isn't enough to fully cook them enough that my belly can handle them. I was taking a chance when I ate them and now, won't eat them again unless I really boil them or make sure they are really really steamed, if even I have to do it separately (as I still have at least 2 cups left of fresh Brussels sprouts.

My day at work went really quickly, as I was all caught up with all my “To-do” list. Actually I was very proud that I had everything done within an hour or so of given to me to do. If anything the last part of work was quite boring as I really had nothing to do, physically, as I had did everything that were was to do. LOL

I went over to my best friend, Christy's house after work. I have been going over there on Fridays and Saturdays mostly. I wore my crocheted cowl that I finished on Monday night. I had used it all week, contemplating if I really liked the coloring of it. I used a variegated earth tone yarn called Aspen print, and I am not certain if I like it in the cowl that I made for myself. I had been thinking if I didn't really like it, I could always give it to Christy, if she did and just make myself another one in a color that I do like. Well, I showed it to her, and she really loved it. The first thing she said “You don't like it, do you?” She knows me all too well. We have been friends for over 25 years, so she knows if I don't like something that I have made (such as crocheting, knitting or sewing) I will do one of two things. One, I will either not finish it or disassemble it. Or Two, I will be persistent, finish it, and force myself to try and like it or just give it away to someone that does like it, so I don't have to see it anymore. We (Christy, Ashley, who is an another friend of ours and I) ended up walking to the Family Dollar to pick a couple things up, and she wore her new crocheted cowl, and I have nothing to keep my neck warm. I complained about it for a bit, as the wind was very biting. She told me that she really liked the cowl that I gave her. The colors were go well with her blue eyes and blond hair too. I can't wait to start my new one with a different color so I can have something warm again like that. I have to say that I did like how warm it keep my neck. I even laughed at her, as she drew it up on her head, so that it covered her ears, and she almost looked like a turtle in a way. LOL

When I was add the Family Dollar, I looked at all the food they had there, and I realized there was nothing I could really eat, as most of it was processed or in a can. I realized that I could have gotten some canned veggies and made those, but since I was over at Christy, I thought it would be odd, if I saw me rinsing canned veggies (to get rid of a lot of retaining salt from the liquid) before I ate them. I never realized unless I went to a grocery store to get something to eat, how hard it would be for me to eat healthy outside having that luxury. I did find some peanuts, which I could have gotten to snack on. I think I will have to prepare for times that I go over to Christy's house after work when I haven't eaten yet. I will have to remember to pack a little something extra on Fridays for for that occasion. She told me that we could go to McDonald's afterwards.

After wards we stopped by McDonalds, as she was hungry and I was complaining a bit that I was hungry too. I told her that my body is used to eating around 5:30, as I have to re-feed it. After looking at the McDonald's nutritional menu for about 15 minutes, I decided on Grilled chicken bacon ranch salad and a bottled water. It probably would have been healthier for me if I didn't get crumbled bacon on it. It was about 260 calories, without adding the dressing. I got Balsamic vinaigrette and add just a little bit to it, which was only 40 calories for the whole thing.. I ended up asking for some hot picante sauce, as I wanted something spicy in my salad. I used two of them, as I thought they would be a bit healthier then dressing. I have read that salsa makes a good healthy topping for baked potatoes, so that is why I wanted to try it. It wasn't bad at all. It gave my salad a little bit of a kick as well as a bit of a tomato-y taste to it. I will have to remember to use that as dressing when making a salad myself some time. I know that the sodium on it is probably high, so since I really don't add salt to food that I cook myself, I am sure having a bit of salt in my diet wouldn't be too bad for me for once. I did fret over eating at McDonalds for a bit, after I ordered my salad. Christy and Ashley both got the newest burger, the Chipotle Bar B-Que burger. It looked really good, but I calculated that it probably was like 700 and something calories! I felt appalled on what everyone else was eating, as I saw how high fat, and high calories majority of the food was in the nutritional menu. I really didn't have any desire to want to consume the stuff, even though the smells were heavenly. I was very happy with my salad and water, as it was very good!

Christy knew that my sewer line was still frozen, and she told me if I wanted to, tomorrow I could take a shower at her house if I wanted. I told her that would be lovely. We talked about how something simple has being able to take a shower is such a luxury, that we usually over look, until we don't have it.

While I was there, I was telling Christy about what I read during the week in the news about how a high fat diet is a contributor to developing depression later on. I forgot about to write about this during the week when I read about it. It was a test study they did over a year with two groups of people. One group ate a normal high fat diet, which is typical of Americans, and the other group ate a lower fat diet, which is also known as a Mediterranean diet, which a person consumes a bit of of olive oil, fish and veggies. I realized that I think I have been following a more Mediterranean diet, as of late, since I have been eating Salmon lately. I was excited to tell Christy about my 4 ½ inch difference on my hips too!

After I left her house, I went to Walmart by myself, as Christy was getting tired and she hadn't slept in almost 24 hours. So I went to Walmart with the goal of picking out some new yarn for my cowl that I was going to crochet. I couldn't decide between some self striping yarn which was different hues of blue or a lovely lavender. Since I had enough on my gift card to get both so I got two skeins of the self striping yarn, as it was a bit more expensive, but it only came in 3 ounce skeins and I got the lavender which was a skein of 6 ounces. I know the Aspen print was a skein of 5 ounces, and I still had just a little bit of it left over.

I walked around the outer aisle of the food department. I lingered on the puddings, as I would have loved to have some as a treat in my diet. I looked long and hard at all them, and decided on a low sugar pudding with bifidus regularis in it. I really wanted to get a jello, but I was torn between the sugar free that had aspartame in it, which I didn't want, and the regular sugar filled type. I guess you can say that I have become very careful on how much sugar I am ingesting in already produced foods like jello and pudding. I know that I need some sugar in my system, but there is where the fruit comes in to play as well for me.

When I got home, I started the first 4 rows of the cowl. I also had one container of the pudding as a snack.. It was lovely and such a treat. I will have to work eating them into my diet before they go bad. I will have to check when the expiration date is. It was getting late and I wanted to get into bed and relax with my kitties. Mekong and Lammy were waiting for me when I got home. LOL Mekong was wanting to jump in my lap when I was crocheting, so I knew she was anxious to get close to me and relax. LOL I love her to death. So when I settled down to sleep, it didn't take long for me to fall asleep, as it was nearing midnight.
