Day Seventeen
A personal journey to health and freedom through water fasting
Date: 6/12/2010 1:12:21 PM ( 14 y ) ... viewed 1791 times I have to admit, today has been a struggle. Not sure what kind of "healing crisis" this is, but my stomach has been growling all day, and I have been craving food...good food. Like grilled salmon with lemon and cracked pepper, steamed kale and baby carrots, sauteed mushrooms, poached eggs on spinach salad, red lentil soup, baked garlic chicken breast, big beefy tomatoes straight from my sunny garden... sigh...
Had one of my best friends, that I haven't seen since beginning this journey, comment to me last night that I looked "beautiful". Then she invited me out to supper... Had to fess up and beg off. "Can't...fasting." Thank God, this friend understands. Instead of condemning me, she simply said, "yeah, I need to start real soon." It's so fulfilling to be able to encourage people to step out in faith and try something they didn't think they could do... and then to succeed where they thought they would fail. My greatest hope for this blog is that people will not just read it, but that they make the changes they need to (like dropping caffeine and junk food), and to begin to take control of their own health through water/juice fasting.
So here's the deal. 26 lbs lost and I am only 1 size down. That is really concerning me. From where did the weight drop off of? Only a little has come off my legs and behind. Then I realized, wow, the body really does know how to heal itself. When I started the fast, my liver/abdomen was swollen like I was pregnant. If I bent over to put on my shoes, I would grunt like a puppy. Could barely breathe without effort. Couldn't figure out why... Duh. I had crossed the line into "visceral fat". That is the really, seriously dangerous kind of fat that packs in and around your organs (like liver, heart, etc). My body, recognizing the crises, took that weight off first, then off my face and upper arms. I have no trouble breathing or bending over, my stomach is almost flat (not 6 pack, just flat!!) I have also suddenly rediscovered my missing collar bones.
Apparently I over did it on restricting my water. Started having acute pains in my kidneys today and already the skin on top off my hand is not very elastic (when I pinch it, it doesn't spring back into place quickly.) That means, in one day, I have made myself dehydrated. Man! So I am back on water...
