Starting Weight: 242 lbs
Today's weight: 215.2 lbs
Total weight loss in 15 days: 26.8 lbs
Okay, okay. So maybe I'm being a little melodramatic. Afterall, I only lost 4.4 lbs in the last 5 days, which means I am now UNDER the 1 lb a day average for water fasting. After I did a little investigation, I discovered what may be a crucial mistake. Seems a person is only really supposed to drink fluids when (gasp) they are actually thirsty. I have been dutifully pouring in my 8+ glasses of water per day, plus my wonderful herbal teas, till I'm running to the potty 12 times a day. No, I'm not incontinent, just water logged.
So, I am easing up on the fluids a bit. I realize that this is a tricky area. If you don't drink enough water, you can get a kidney infection and have to cancel the fast early. So I'm going to try to just ease up and try to get used to this thing call "thirst". Dr Shelton observed that his patients who only drank when they were thirsty lost weight twice as fast as patients who drank fuids constantly (as an oral "fix"). Well, it's worth a try I guess.
Noticed two wonderful health benefits today. First, all arthritic joint pain and swelling in my fingers is gone. and the second, (not really a health benefit, but work with me here, people), the "jowls" on my face have officially vanished. No more pig jowls hanging off my jawline!!! That, to me, makes it all worthwhile.
OK, I'm back from my ridiculous moment of vanity...
Realized I had a great natural resource right outside my back door. I live in a house with a 100' wide river right behind it. What I mean is, I have a six foot ledge for a "backyard", then there is 40' drop to the riverbank. It is absolutely gorgeous. Big, I mean BIG, trees hold the house on the ledge to keep it from sliding into the river!!
So this morning, while the world was still asleep, I went out to the "backyard" and just prayed, stretched my muscles, and took an "oxygen bath". As you can imagine, with all the trees, bushes, water and humidity, the atmosphere really feels very cleansing and healthy. It was so wonderful and relaxing, I think I'll make it a morning ritual.
Today is "fasting and prayer" day for my church. One day a month we join together to fast (for a day) and come together at night to pray for needs of our church, community and world. I guess this was the EASIEST one of these I've ever had--had a two week head start. Feels almost like cheating! The sad thing is, to most people, fasting is the hardest thing because they never go past that first few days after which, fasting becomes so much easier. You can't tell them. They won't believe you. They just have to do it themselves, and find out for themselves.
