Re: I-OD'd
I wonder if perhaps the problem is another mineral, one other than a halide. I take a very modest dose of iodine, and am increasing very slowly though my body is improving as though I were doing shots of the stuff. My skin has completely transformed and even my vision is beginning to improve. But I recently began to feel a bit slow, my skin was growing drier, my digestion was off, and I was retaining water, so I wondered what I might be missing. One thing I was missing was a bit of extra sodium, I'm pretty sure. So, I drank Alka-Seltzer gold a couple of days and my skin bounced back within 2 days. I also regained my energy. However my sensitive skin which had broken out during the 'crisis' was still broken out, and I usually improve quickly with the right mineral. So I began trying the 'usual suspects' of the past with no improvements. So I hit the research, and was reminded of something I had overlooked or forgotten. That was potassium. Not that I don't get potassium, after all it is in my food, and my Alka-Seltzers, just that I needed more than I have needed in the past because of Iodine.
Basically, potassium and magnesium have a weird relationship. On some levels they counterbalance each other, but at the same time, if you become deficient in magnesium you often become deficient in potassium(probably because of the sodium component, not sure). Of course we need a lot more potassium than magnesium in our diets. So, with
Iodine increasing the need for more magnesium, and sodium being recommended, too, something must be happening to the potassium levels and needs. Typically when I take magnesium, I try to match it with potassium within the same day. Then I get the rest by food if possible. But recently I have been slack and so, I upped my potassium. The next day the breakouts had subsided and are nearly gone, and the water weight is much improved.
I'm not suggesting that your issue is the same as mine, but you may not need to increase the other halides to find balance. You may want to check the whole mineral profile, and see if
Iodine may be having an affect on them. Once you find the missing component, that my be enough to allow you to maintain the regimen you choose. And maybe it's time to find a maintenance dose that won't put as much of a demand on your other nutrients.
