Re: I am Pregnant with Mirena in place..

I had the Mirena in place for almost 4 months and still got pregnant. I had no idea I was pregnant, I only knew I was bleeding really irregularly for almost the entire time. I expected the irregular bleeding the first 3 months, but the bleeding got heavier, especially in the last 6 weeks. I couldn't even guess as to when by period was because it literallly seemed like I was haveing it 24/7. There was probably a break of about 3-4 weeks in February that I didn't have bleeding and I suspect that is close to when I actualy got pregnant. It was because of all the bleeding and side effects of that I decided to get it removed. I never suspected pregnancy for a minute. The ultrasound was done to locate the Mirena after my doctor couldn't find the strings to remove it. That is how I found out I was pregnant...I saw it on the ultrasound machine..it's little heart was beating away...
I am now almost 11 weeks pregnant and my Mirena was put in it September and remains there still (much to my dismay). My biggest worry at this point is the health of my baby. With all the progesterone in my system, no one can tell me that it won't affect the baby...especially if it's a girl.
My advice to you is to go in and get checked again. They should be able to see something on ultrasound by now if you are pregnant, if it's ectopic, or even if the IUD is imbedded or causing havoc to your uterus. If it doesnt' feel right, you've have got to trust you're instincts...I wish I had listened to mine earlier..Maybe they would have been able to remove the Mirena if I found out earlier..
