My granddad was diabetic. He was on insulin for 20 years. Then he changed doctors, and this doctor recommended that he go off insulin and control his diabetes with diet. Now this was an ordinary conventional allopathic physician, and he recognized it worked. So they counted carbs and sugars and measured things out, and he exercised and his dessert would be 1 apple per day, after a meal. It wasn't really the best or ideal diet but it was pretty good and he lived another decade after that, in his 80s when he died. One thing they did which was not good was my grandmother started using a lot of nutrasweet! Yikes! That was the main thing they did which was really bad, the rest was pretty good overall. I think there is enough info out there these days to do a great job at controlling type II by diet, and this article is a good example.
