The reason why there are peer-reviewed journals is so the evidence can be reviewed. When one has had the appropriate training (which includes attending for example journal clubs) one learns how to spot the fudges. There is plenty of research not performed by drug companies. If you wish to assume a conspiracy, almost by definition I cannot persuade you.

I believe there is a Conspiracy by alternative medicine (which contrary to what you may believe has plenty of vested interests not least of which is plain egotism) to oppose the undountedly effective treatments eg HAART, statins etc.
