Re: Lightbringer
"how does one receive god's holy spirit?this comes after baptism and repentance,"
i would have to disagree with the above statement. i did not receive the Holy Spirit after I was baptized. I was baptized with the Holy Spirit when I believed.
1 Cor. 12:13
"For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body- whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free- we were all given one Spirit to drink"
"so you can plainly see that the holy spirit is only given to those that obey god. this requires action on behalf of the believer.most christians today want to get by, just by saying they believe. they are right in believeing, but that is only part of the story. remember the h/s(understanding)is given only to those who obey."
Just some notes:
To believe is to obey God. Faith itself is obedience, but faith also produces obedience.
Romans 1:5
"Through him and for his name's sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience which comes from faith"
Acts 6:7 talks about some becoming "obedient to the faith"
*the problem that i see with receiving the Holy Spirit upon "continued obedience" is, "What happens when we are disobedient?" (which we all are at times) Would the Spirit be removed from us? That to me makes no sense.
