Re: Diet - Moderation
"Where do you get your information about red meat. It seems to contradict the studies available"
Logic is sufficient. The best source of information about "that kind of thing" comes from the Weston A. Price foundation. (
http://www.westonaprice.org ). Grass-fed beef is very different from conventional beef fattened in feed lots with corn, on which the studies you mentioned are based. A lot more CLA, a lot more omega 3's, more vitamins and minerals, and probably many other things. Plenty of studies on the benefits of these specific substances.
Soup can be very healthy when made with bones broth, but the broths available in stores are crap, and canned soups are crap. Grains used to be prepared in way to eliminate phytic acid and enzymes inhibitor, such as by making sourdough bread (flour fermented for a few days), while now the breads are quickly done with baker's yeast.
Isn't it weird that wheat is problematic with so many people, from celiacs to schizophrenics...
Pasteurization of milk destroys many of its beneficial anti-infective compounds by changing proteins such as lactoferrin, and many others. Raw milk from healthy cows will contain beneficial bacterias and won't cause problems. Studies show that people with Crohn's disease have a bug named Paratuberculosis Avium, which is rarely found in "normal" people, and which survives milk pasteurization.
Babies are often fed with commercial stuff instead of breast milk. This can even have influences on genes, as is shown by a studies on rats that I don't have the specific references of, but I know it was done in Quebec, Canada. The phenomenon is called epigenetics. Some diseases are also found more often in people who were not breast-fed as babies. These babies are also more prone to otitis. I don't have the specific studies but I believe they can be found on medline. Uneducated mothers...
The only thing I said about fish is that 50 years from now, it might not be healthy anymore.
You are right that eating more veggies and fruits is better than eating none. But it could be so much more healthier.
When you only eat healthy food, it's hard to get enough calories to become obese. Slow metabolism and lack of physical activity are also very important aspects. Obesity most of the times is a problem with people eating a lot of junk food, so it's not surprising that it is correlated with so many diseases. "Real" food in general is very filling (either from the fibers or from the fats and proteins). It's easier to overeat on potato chips, hamburgers, mashed potatoes, sauces and even white rice.
Men got to the top of the food chain and to the top of animal intelligence when eating exclusively raw, "natural" food. It must not be that bad.
Maybe health is easy when you have total control over your diet, but when I was younger, nobody taught me what was healthy. Now I suffer the consequences.
