Re: AA/NA Smoke and mirrors!

You're right, Rudenski, about the
importance of good diet in getting
over alcoholism; for that matter,
in getting over any illness, addiction, or degenerative condition.

I'll celebrate my 28th year in a row
of sobriety in early July. If I
hadn't become a vegetarian the same
month I gave up booze, I'd probably
have nothing to celebrate.

Alas, most Americans, drinkers and
non-drinkers, eat hideous food that
is loaded with toxins; poisons that
incapacitate you and then kill you
over the decades. And most people,
confronted with this truth, choose
to dismiss it; to write off people
like you and me as eccentrics.

In more than six decades of living,
I've known just ONE friend who
consciously chose to give up booze -- and stuck with it. She also adopted an eating regimen composed
mostly of living foods.

In contrast, I've known more than a
hundred relatives and friends, including my father and sister, who
could not stop drinking even to save
their lives. They chose booze over
life. It's incomprehensible to me.
Perhaps you're right and there is some deep. compelling masoshism in
our species that drives us to do
ourselves in.

Thanks for a good message, Rudenski,
as always.
