Re: New Guy, but fasting for about 6 months.
I fasted for 20 days with 15 days of water and black coffee only and that was 3 months ago, so I am not afraid of fasting. In fact people that I relate that story to are more afraid for themselves than I am. So I had to stop telling people and I got banned from lowcarber daily forum for talking about fasting and I am on notice at lowcarbfriends for the same reason. All the dime store psychiatrists were unloading on me. I post back saying you don't know what you're talking about and I get put on notice. Anyway, I'll fast to oblivion if needed, I'll fast till I disappear if needed. But I am rapidly coming to either a point of diminishing returns or doing some damage, or getting signals I cant interpret right from my body.
OK On Nov 24th - Dec 14th - I was 148 on Dec 14th, the exact same weight I am now. This is my 4 or 5th pass on 148. Got to 140 or so Jan 13th, and then again 142 or so in Feb etc etc. I will have to eat on 25th and on 29th at 2 events I will be attending. So I cant chose my breakfast time or what.
However I am pretty ailment free at this point and other than getting to a super low BF and super low visceral fat level, there is no reason to fast. I may have ailments I don't know about, sure, and the fast and the resulting autophagy etc etc can clean that out and postpone the onset of any ailments. That is true.
However all the symptoms the book talks about for when to go back to eating - none of those are there right now, and they have never been. 20 days in back in Dec, I felt almost no other symptoms other than mild hunger all the way across.
I feel hunger, cravings, boredom, temptations and some other minor symptoms from time to time. And the rare constipation, diarrhea and maybe a bit of insomnia on occasion I am symptom free. Last night I was craving food of any kind. Now, I don't have any desire to eat the jerky I have sitting 3 feet from me.
Anyway, the book has information on how he has fasted people who were emaciated for up to 22 days. How many times did he do that in succession. To put it in perspective, the month of Nov, I ate 3 times, 6th, 15th and 24th. Dec I ate 4 times. 14th, 18th, 19th and 24th.
Also I have no problem eating meat or anything else low carb high fat and protein on the breakfast meal. I never start it with orange juice. I have not drank OJ in years maybe. I don't exactly like much of any fruit juice. I don't even eat fruits really. Most carbs are from veggies. Of course then I decide to pig out on desserts, and in some cases try to push myself out of ketosis. Some cases I like to get close, but not go over. I have a very good feel for what my body is doing, I am able to get these 2 done very well.
Anyway, my comfortable weight may be ~160 or so, but muscular. I was working out and eating 1 a day back in end of Jan and I got to 162 or so, with a well defined upper body, and my Omron 516 DSM-BIA couldn't measure my BF - under 5%, and it was 49% muscle - it quits @ 50% too.
I have an exit strategy in mind, because my taste buds have got blown out, I can eat a lot of hot hot hot spicy food, and not even flinch. Same with sweet. I am thinking of starting a potato hack on April 3rd for 2 weeks as an exit strategy. If I get the taste sensitivity back I'd be able to better control my eating.
I've done OMAD, I'm more comfortable doing a 1-2 week fast every 3-4 months than doing OMAD. But I'll know after the potato hack.
Thanks.
Srinath.
