Re: Do You Have to Speak in Tongues to Be Saved?
It's not about a question as to whether God understands our own language. In the natural mind it does sound like a strange thing to do. God does do things that seem strange to us. The Apostle Paul said that he prayed in the Spirit and with his understanding. He said that he spoke in tongues more than them all. As far as praying in tongues go, it is my guess that God wants to help us pray. Prayer is very important to God because He works through prayer. Sometimes He has woke me up at night to go pray in tongues. I do not even know what He wants me to pray about, but He obviously had a burden that He wanted me to help Him with by prayer. His ways are not our ways. His ways seem strange to us. Tongues are a way for Him to have us pray a perfect prayer, a prayer that He needs to be prayed so that He can do a work in a person or situation. We may not even know the person or about the situation we are praying about, but He desperately wants prayer for it.
Several years ago, the Lord gave me a burden for someone. My burden was mostly for his soul, but I did not know for sure why I had such a burden for him all at once. It was someone I loved and cared about. I know lots of people that I love and care about who are not saved. I do have a burden for them, but not a very heavy burden that came upon me to this extent over just one of them. This was an unusual experience. I did not know how to pray. I didn't even really know what was going on with him. I felt strongly that the Lord wanted me to pray for him in tongues. The burden was so heavy that I would not have known how to pray for him any other way. I prayed for him with my understanding at the same time the best I could. After a few weeks of going through this, the young man was killed. I then understood why God gave me the burden to pray for him. I believe that God did something with my prayers for that young man. I believe He sent workers to him to preach the gospel of Christ. I believe He made him open to the gospel. I believe there is a good chance that guy is in heaven today. Had I never gotten the burden and prayed for him as intensely as I did, I would have had a lot of doubts. It gave me peace.
I do try to stay off the subject now because I know you and the others who think it is fantasy don't want this shoved down your throats. I just thought Brown's video was perfect timing after the recent discussion which came up accidentally. I probably should not have posted it. It's hard to know what to do sometimes.
Yes, Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Is that not enough? After we receive Him there's something called obedience. There's something about doing His will that He has planned for our lives. There's something about reaching our full potential in Him.
Yes, Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Is that not enough? For me it's not. I want more than just to make it to heaven. I want to please Him. I want others to make it there too. I want to fulfill my destiny that He has for me. I want others to do the same. I don't want the enemy of my soul ruling me or others. He has given us gifts so that we can use them for His glory. He has given us gifts so that He can work through them to help others. He has given us gifts to use to fight the enemy. He has given us gifts to use so that we can fulfill our destiny that He has chosen for us.
Yes, Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Is that not enough? No, it's definitely not enough for me because "God is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him." Hebrews 11:6
I want all He has for me.
