Re: hormones/skin links and fasting
Thanks for your response DesertLili!
The oil for the skin is indeed a good idea and I'll tune my diet with the seeds. I'm already a big fan of green juices and usually drink about a liter per day (diluted with a bit of fruit juice to make it taste better). Long ago I've used sesame oil on my skin and it rocks. It's a bit messy to deal with but I'll give it a try during the fast. I'm still a bit afraid of becoming wrinkled. My skin is indeed thinner than average and my body type is between skinny and average a bit nearer to average.
Before the first
Water Fast my prolactin was twice as much as the current so fasting seemed to improve it. In contrast it elevated my shbg from 40-50 to 60-70. My thyroid hormones were heavily fluctuating (tsh could be anywhere between 1 and 7 with random free T3/T4) but now it fluctuates much less (tsh=2-4). On top of this I was hypogonadal and highly estrogenic (T=8-13, E2=200-250). Fasting seemed to put most of my hormone levels in place except prl and shbg.
Here is a measurement from 2015 Dec:
TSH 3,610 mIU/L (0,400 - 4,000)
Free T4 13,61 pmol/L (7,75 - 15,21)
Free T3 6,52 pmol/L !!! (3,80 - 6,00)
LH 6,34 U/L (1,24 - 8,20)
FSH 4,58 U/L (1,27 - 19,26)
Prolactin 384,6 mIU/L !!! (56,0 - 278,4)
Progesteron 5,4 nmol/L (0,5 - 6,6)
E2 101,5 pmol/L (0,0 - 172,5)
T 20,8 nmol/L (6,1 - 27,1)
Free T index (FTI) 33,5 % (24,3 - 110,2)
Androstenedione 8,0 nmol/L (2,1 - 10,8)
SHBG 62,00 nmol/L (13,30 - 89,50)
Albumin 47,2 g/L (35,0 - 52,0)
Cortisol 478,5 nmol/L (185 - 624)
DHEA-S 7,10 µmol/L (2,30 - 18,73)
Total 25-OH D-Vitamin 77,5 nmol/L (75,0 - 500,0)
To be honest I don't really want to deal with docs anymore. They spectacularly ignored my condition from many aspects. They said my T=8 was still "within range" and my prl=750 wasn't that high (because it wasn't several thousands) and they would prescribe me bromocriptine if I wanted. I would also like to avoid medications if possible, it would be nice to be able to deal without things like bromocriptine or quinagolide. It's ridiculous that online sources point out a lot of correlation between hormone levels but almost no one knows which hormone is actually affected by the other and quite often it seems to be a vicious circle where one of the hormones screws up the other and vice versa.
I'm almost sure that prl will be fine at some point. One of the reasons I want to do a long fast is because high prl can be caused by tiny undetectable pituatry tumors against which fasting could be effective. In contrast I'm a bit worried about the shbg levels. Based on my extensive research it seems to be very difficult or impossible to control. Women with high shbg (caused by contraceptive pills) seem to have hard time dealing with this. Physically I'm in quite good shape but I'm constantly moody and depressed for several years as of now (probably the high shbg and low free T).
But no problem. A week later I'm taking 3 weeks of holiday, plenty of things to read, and the journey begins! :-)
