Re: Gift of healing...

E:
I believe that if someone knew nothing about God, the bible, Christianity, etc, got miraculously baptized in the Holy Spirit and found themselves on a deserted island with only the new testament to read, they would never in a million years conclude that the gift of healing ceased based on what the bible says. The fact that you have done so speaks of extreme bias and preconceived notion which influenced your interpretation. Not to mention that you are ignoring all of the evidence right before your very eyes.

V: Well by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, it's actually very easy to see that the gift of healing described in the scriptures is not the same as the gift of healing being espoused today. The same goes for the gift of tongues. It's just not the same. And for me, the greatest evidence of all is seeing over and over that all these people that are claiming to have the gift of healing don't seem to be focused on spreading the gospel and talking about Jesus, but always seem to be focused on promoting their gifts. They are missing the very reason that the gift of healing was given in the first place, to further the gospel of Jesus Christ. The gift of healing was given before the scriptures were completed. There needed to be a way to confirm that the apostles, etc. were speaking the truth about the gospel, and the gift of healing among others was given as a sign that they were speaking the truth from God. We have the completed scriptures now with the gospel of Jesus Christ clearly written and so there is no need now for confirmation by a sign gift.
I clearly see all those that claim to have the gift of healing doing the very opposite of God's purpose for the gift of healing. I see them distracting people from the gospel, so that they are lead away from it.

Matthew 16:4
A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.

You talk about all that you've seen and experienced that can't be denied. But here in Matthew 24:24 it says there will be great signs and wonders that are performed by the wolves in sheep's clothing. So yeah, there's some exciting things to see and experience, and it's going to take some discernment by God's grace to know the difference, since if possible, even the elect could be deceived by it all.

Matthew 24:24
For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.

People will experience these signs and wonders. No one can deny their experiences, therefore we must shut up and follow those that are doing the signs and wonders. Won't we be called quenchers of the Holy Spirit and everything else under the sun if we don't? We're going to miss out too on getting to be part of the Kingdom of God in the here and now. Oh sad us, missing out on all God's greatness!

Or maybe, just maybe, we will be much better off to not fall for all these satanic traps and heed to the warnings in the scriptures about all this.
I have Jesus. He is all I need. I don't need the signs and wonders. I don't need a "healer". And no one else needs all that either. People need to hear the gospel. They need to come to Jesus. And he uses weakness and sickness to bring people to himself believe it or not.
