Re: Faith in God

It shouldn't have mattered the severity of the illness or whether it was caused by demon possession or not. If you have the gift of healing, then you can pretty much heal anything, big or small.

And Timothy didn't just have stomach troubles, he had other frequent ailments.

1 Timothy:
23 No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.

Again, this doesn't mean that God did not heal at all after that point. He most certainly did. People that were demon possessed could still be prayed for, and anointed, etc. But there is evidence that the "gift of healing" ceased. Otherwise Paul would have just healed Timothy. One of the disciples would have healed Paul, or Paul would have healed himself. Paul also didn't heal Trophimus. Why not if he could have?

2 Timothy 4:
19Greet Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus. 20Erastus remained at Corinth, and I left Trophimus, who was ill, at Miletus.

We always have those that claim to have the "gift of healing" but they don't wipe out the hospitals, they just put on shows.

We all are called to pray for people, and sometimes people are healed, but that doesn't mean we have the "gift of healing". I believe the gift of healing was given for a time, to confirm the gospel message before the canon was closed.
