Re: Has anyone ever been helped by adaptogens...ever?!?
I have experienced 'paradoxical' (as Dr. Lam calls it) reactions to any form of supplements, glandulars, medication or endocrine-stimulating herbs. These reactions accompany fatigue, intensified brain fog, vertigo and neurological symptoms. I really don't have a solid physiological explanation but I suspect that my cortisol levels are very unstable and my endocrine system (or HPA axis rather) is dysfunctional and very slowly healing, rejecting any additional nutrients or stimulants.
My adrenal crisis event (in 2013) was so severe that I could not walk, breathe, form a sentence or eat without passing out. It took me months to recover and I was left with debilitating brain fog, memory loss, decreased bone density, poor overall cognition and weight gain. I'm still challenging all of these symptoms but my progress is relatively OK. I'd just like to emphasise the importance of nutrition and sleep. These have been key in my recovery. Sleep no later than 11/12 and sleep for 7-9 hours. Due to my fatigue I excessively sleep, and have the privilege of waking up at 9 or 10, sleeping for 10 hours undisturbed every night. Additionally, don't restrict your calorie intake, just focus on nutrient-dense foods. Fruits, vegetables, saturated fat, rice etc.
