Re: Why Are There So Many Churches (EDIT)
I just wanted to make one more comment about what you said here:
"Are you sure that this is what they believe...Oneness? Most of the people I know that don't believe in the Trinity are in what most people would call a cult. They only believe that the Holy Spirit is the power of God...not a third person or personality of the Trinity. They are called non-trinitarians."
When Thorn posted the 5 core Biblical principals of true Christianity, they were not new to me by any means. I had learned these from my youth as a way to help identify cults. In other words any group that does not believe in these 5 principals is identified as a cult. Therefore, all groups that don't believe in the Trinity are classified as cults. That is why those who believe in "Oneness" are classified as cults. Yes, all non-Trinitarian groups are classified as cults.
Having said that, I personally have trouble believing that all these people who belong to some of these cults are not saved. Some of these cults seem to have the message of salvation right, while others are a way off preaching salvation by works etc. Some of these people who do seem to have the salvation message right do seem to me to be saved. Now we know that if they are looking to another Jesus for their salvation they are not saved because only the real Jesus saves. So the question is, "Does not believing in the Trinity mean they are looking to another Jesus?" Also, "Does not believing in the Deity of Christ mean that they are looking to another Jesus?" It is plain to see that most groups who do not believe in the Deity of Christ are looking to another Jesus like JW etc., but others seem to have the rest of it right.
It seems to be popular now days, among some, to not believe in the inerrancy of the scriptures. There seems to be a whole group of people on youtube preaching this false message. They don't understand all scriptures so it is just easier for them to say the Bible is not inerrant than to study what they do not understand and seek the Holy Spirit for answers on these things. These people are confused, but I still tend to think that they are Christians even though they would be classified as being in a cult for this false belief.
These concerns do not have easy answers.
Here are the 5 core beliefs of true Christianity again:
1. The Trinity: God is one “What” and three “Whos” with each “Who” possessing all the attributes of Deity and personality.
2. The Person of Jesus Christ: Jesus is 100% God and 100% man for all eternity.
3. The Second Coming: Jesus Christ is coming bodily to earth to rule and judge.
4. Salvation: It is by grace through faith alone in Christ alone.
5. The Scripture: It is entirely inerrant and sufficient for all Christian life.
