Re: Lecture on Hell...

(How about you? Is there much brainwashing in your background?)

No, I was blessed to be raised in the truth. My parents both had a heart for God. My pastor and his wife were very sincere God-seeking, God-loving people. They only wanted to please God. They were not in the ministry for anything else. They served God. They did not serve themselves or man. They did not beg for money. They were Pentecostals, but were NOT into weird controversial stuff. They were not Charismatic. They were only interested in the truth.

(Rainy you talk about how the bible is your source for truth and not "youtube", but so it is with most everybody who comes up with a doctrinal opinion on eternal torment or on anything else... and who makes a youtube video on the subject... including Mr. Fudge who did this youtube video but bases it predominately in scripture as you would be able to discover if you were to watch it.)

I've watched him before. I do not believe he is preaching the truth about hell. I wish he were, but his reasoning does not line up with scripture.

(Also He speaks the same words in the churches he visits that become youtube videos. Youtube is no worse a place than the average church or seminary to go to for truth.)

I agree. I examine everything that someone is trying to teach me. I test the spirits and make sure it lines up with what God said in His word, the Bible. I mentioned youtube because the Internet opens people up to a lot of strange teaching now days that many would never have been exposed to if it were not for the Internet. This can be confusing to people who are not grounded in the Word of God. They are open to more possibility of deception. Of course, if they get into a wrong church things can be just as bad. There is just a lot more opportunity for it now days with the Internet and Youtube.

(Regarding the doctrine of "eternal torment in hell", i found the following quote in the video by R. F. Weymouth, a greek scholar and new testament translator quite compelling. He says, "My mind fails to conceive a grosser misinterpretation of language than when the five or six strongest words which the greek tongue possesses signifying "destroy" or "destruction" are explained to mean an everlasting but wretched existance. To translate black as white is nothing to this.")

I don't have an opinion on this and I don't plan to take the time to study it out in the Greek. This subject is just not important enough for me to waste my time on. A lot of people try to throw Greek into their arguments because they know most people don't know Greek and will not or cannot check it out.

(Rainy, are you among those who translate "destroy and destruction" to mean everlasting torment in hell?)

Yes, I am because I believe that is what the Bible says.

Revelation 14:10-11
King James Version (KJV)
10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

I'm glad you and Vektek have found some common ground. :)

I put this subject into the category of vain arguments that don't do anybody any good. When it comes to important things that will effect our salvation and our doing God's will for our lives I believe we need to contend for the faith and correct doctrine.

1 Timothy 1: 5-7 tells me I need to stay away from these kinds of arguments. I especially need to do this because I have time issues. I need to make sure I use my time wisely for the Lord.

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. Thanks for answering my post.
