I believe both alternatives are good. For some not as brave, they would quit or even never take Iodine in the first place.
At the Iodine FB page I saw this one, also to be considered;
"We've suggested people who are sensitive "start low, start slow" with iodine. But there's an additional Pre-treatment Protocol that some of the doctors use. They start patients with NO Iodine but all the companion nutrients for two weeks. DO NOT SKIP THE SALT WATER. The salt loading is the hardest thing to get people to comply with--and one of the most essential parts of the protocol. Good luck!"
That said, I have some house rules; for my kids and me.. One of them are; "listen to the elders."
Last but not least; "break the rules once in a while."
