Re: when a dental infection has gone too far...
hi there,
the condition you were previously talking about is 'infective endocarditis' which is a serious condition where bacteria that have gotten into the bloodstream infect the inner lining of the heart.
You are right in that some of the bacteria can that cause this infection can come from dental infections.
However unless you are at an increased risk of getting infective endocarditis you wont have it.
you are at increased risk if you had rheumatic fever as a child, or have prosthetic heart valves or have congenital heart defects. If you do have any of the above then aggressive treatment of any dental infections is necessary.
Symptoms of infective endocarditis are:
fever
fatigue
aching joints and muscles
night sweats
shortness of breath
pale face
swelling of legs, feet or abdomen
persistant cough
unexplained weight loss
tenderness of the spleen
If you have any of the heart problems written above and think you have a dental infection and have any of the symptoms above I recommend you see a dentist or doctor ASAP
If you don't then I highly doubt you have infective endocarditis. However I would still recommend you seeing a dentist about the lump you mentioned. Wisdom teeth can come through later than expected.
If you have an erupting wisdom tooth that has a cyst around it it needs to be looked at by a dentist, rubbing oil of oregarno on it wont make it go away.
