well, doc10, I been not following posts on this forum much and not sure what advice you have been giving others, but I would agree that on a natural healing site, we shouldn't be telling people with candida to eat potatoes and gravy. I have lived in India for the past 2 years and have studied ayurvedic medicine quite a bit. I have also met some extremely competent ayurvedic doctors and had a chance to ask many questions. I agree that many people that are holding strict diets and are underweight may have an out of balance vata. I also agree that it would be good for jboy to gain some weight. But there is a lot of misinformation especially on the internet about the correct foods to eat to bring vata back into balance. In general it says to eat foods that are cooked, satiating and that have a taste that is sweet, sour, and salty. But this does not mean to eat cake, potatoes, fried foods etc. (as some people suggest). Some people don't think of rice, oatmeal, and other carbohydrates as sweet, but if you really pay attention to your taste, these foods actually do give a sweet taste and are very good for people that have a vata imbalance, and they are also healthy for your body. I agree that for vata, adding some meat into the diet may be good, but it is also very easy to maintain a healthy weight as a vegetarian with a vata imbalance. I am pitta-vata, underweight for the majority of my life, and I became a vegetarian about three years ago, not for any health reasons, it just kind of naturally happened. I have actually gained weight since becoming a vegetarian. I don't think drinking raw vegetable juice is really bad for vata but high-percentage raw food diets are probably not good. I believe that jboy's main problem is a pitta imbalance because he described having stomach pain when eating garlic and other foods that are bad for pitta, hence the diet recommendations in my post. Science and its not as easy as just identifying your body type and eating a diet that goes along with it. Various imbalances can occur throughout various parts of the body regardless of body type.
