Re: Versus killed/raped/hospitalized????

>>"The idea that anyone could acquire enough physical training to defend themselves in dire circumstances is folly."<<

No... it is not ever folly to defend oneself, no matter the circumstances, training or not. I think it folly not to try if it comes to that.

However, your point is well taken, and that is why a competent martial arts or self defense school will also spend a great deal of time, perhaps even more than 50%, in the practice of mental training and conditioning along with the physical... your greatest asset\weapon by far, being your mind.

The best schools teach multiple knife and gun defenses as well.

It is also why a competent MA school will ALWAYS caution you against your own EGO - which, can easily be most people's Achilles heal.

Not many people will stick with schools such as this though because they will beat you down (if you have or develop a big head or ego) if necessary, however, these types of schools are the best out there.

Teaching things such as the techniques needed to escape after being bound and gagged, and\or being put in places of confinement such as a car trunk, etc.

- In addition, in general terms... a weapon does give most a false sense of security, and all too often the defender is injured or killed by the attacker with their own weapon.

- this is due to any number of reasons, however, in general, the higher the eduction, the greater the reluctance to use deadly force.

if one thinks about it... it makes sense... i.e. the social and behavior conditioning that occurs within schools, churches, etc.

So weapons training, whether it is a firearm, knife, bat, or Monk's Spade, along with regular practice is a MUST.

Point being with this discussion, as I have stated, is that people need to keep their head, assess the situation in fractions of a second, react appropriately just as fast, and then get out of harms way as quickly as possible calling in authorities when it is safe to do so.

That takes practice too... with real, lifelike scenario practice - over and over again until you can do it in your sleep.
