Re: What is the best self-defence/martial arts for women?
Most women have very strong hips and legs.
I would narrow the focus down to an art that emphasizes kicking.
Taking out the knee of an attacker with any number of kicks is as effective as anything.
Once they are down... run away, or if necessary (person has a fire arm - and\or still has enough drive to continue the attack), finish it off with an ax kick or two to any number of vulnerable bones... or to the head.
You should, as you achieve advanced ranks, learn various disabling and kill strike points in class.
Other thoughts would be Krav Maga which emphasizes the use of kicks, knees, head, and elbows as striking weapons along with joint locks... though these can be hard to apply with the upper body if you lack upper body strength or are against a strong attacker (yes their are joint locks taught that you can do with your legs).
