Re: Salt is OK, apparently
Ok. First lets get rid of some folklore. To break down salt, the body has to do....Nothing! Haven't you noticed how salt dissolves in water - the sodium and chlorine ions instantly dissociate in water.
Now I worship the ground that Dr. McDougall walks on but I do have an issue with one point: Salt is NOT salt!
The processed stuff you buy in the supermarket is pure 100% NaCl (sodium Chloride) distilled by selective precipitation.
Celtic
Sea Salt or any unprocessed evaporated ocean water is not. At least 15% of this is not Sodium or Chloride. It contains 3.5% magnesium and 1% potassium. It contains myriad trace minerals which are invaluable to functional health and sometimes deficient in soil. Some people derive clear benefits from this because of trace mineral deficiency.
The research by Gerson suggests that excess sodium is disruptive to body chemistry, unbalancing the extra-cellular sodium fluids and the intra-cellular potassium fluids. When his cancer patients stopped consuming salt, an enormous backlog of sodium was eliminated from their tissues in a few months.
This clearly demonstrates that the body is trying to get rid of the stuff and the eliminative organs can be compromised in people with deranged body chemistry.
Bottom Line:
If you are in reasonable good health, there are more important things to worry about but don’t go overboard on the stuff. And if you are going to use it, do use unprocessed
Sea Salt – at least it has some chemical balance.
However, if you qualify for the Gerson Clinic, your body chemistry may benefit from unburdening itself of the excess chemical sodium.
Your body does not need it - so if you can live without it – perfect!
