Re: Salt seems OK (McDougall Newsletter, August 2008)

I am extremely salt sensitive. I have hypertension. If I cut out salt (I've used table salt and celtic Sea Salt and Himalayan pink salt) my blood pressure goes down to almost normal. I know most people are probably not extremely salt sensitive like I am. But, I have no choice but to avoid salt except as it occurs naturally in plant foods.

But, I love salt! So, sometimes I use salt substitutes which I know aren't great for you either. If anybody has any suggestions on making food taste better without salt I'd appreciate it. I know they say that in time you will appreciate the subtle flavors of plain food, but so far it isn't happening. Soup is particularly bad without it. I know Celery is naturally high in sodium. I have considered putting some in my dehydrator and grinding it. I don't know... I have tried lemon and vinegar, Mrs. Dash etc.
