It seems like a very wise strategy to try to eliminate potential food allergies first.

A salt mill is very much like a pepper mill (maybe even identical?), which in turn is a miniature version of a coffee grinder. If you are buying, choose a good quality ceramic mill. They'll last forever and give excellent performance also in the kitchen.

Someone once told me that you should only use edible stuff for skin treatment... maybe a good rule of thumb!
