Re: This is not the right forum

Molly,

Let me clarify that I'm an independent with democratic leaning. I've never voted for a republican for president, for that matter. My family is stunned that I've registered Republican to vote for Ron Paul. So I believe I'm pretty open minded about politics.

I believe that both parties are funded by the same interests, and in turn support the same interests. At this point they are the same party - the big business party.

Here's some evidence. Hillary's top 5 contributers are

http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/contrib.asp?id=N00000019&cycle=2008

DLA Piper
Goldman Sachs
Morgan Stanley
Citigroup Inc
EMILY's List

All big money.

Obama's top 5:

Goldman Sachs
Lehman Brothers
National Amusements Inc
JP Morgan Chase & Co
Sidley Austin LLP

Big Money.

Romney:

Goldman Sachs
Merrill Lynch
Marriott International
Bain Capital
Morgan Stanley

Big Money.

Giuliani

Ernst & Young
Elliott Management
Credit Suisse Group
Merrill Lynch
Bear Stearns

Big Money.

Here are Ron Paul's top 6 (thought I'd get that Air Force at 6 for a bit of
drama):

Google Inc
US Army
US Navy
Microsoft Corp
Huffines Communities
US Air Force

Not a single investment bank in the list.

Ron Paul is being funded by regular people and in my estimation will in turn support regular people.

Your statements above about Ron Paul are indeed very strong, and if you are correct in your assertions, I'd love to verify it. I'm going out on a limb with my friends and family promoting this guy. I'd absolutely HATE to have these people eventually associate me with white supremacists.

>> I hate everything Ron Paul stands for, and I am sick of seeing pro-references to him on the News Forum. Who is the moderator here anyway?

This is an honest question. Why so much emotion? Why would you hate everything he stands for?

>> He has ties to the White Supremacists.

Now this is indeed the most worrisome claim. Why do you believe this?

>> He is against a woman's right to choose.

He personally believes that abortion is wrong, but he wants the federal government completely out of regulating it. He believes that under the constitution abortion falls under the responsibility of the states to regulate. He does NOT want the supreme court involved.

He argues his points of principle against abortion using late term abortion, and I've never met a person yet who doesn't feel that aborting a baby at 8 months for non-health reasons is wrong. On the other hand he admits that the day after pill will be tremendously difficult for the states to ban because there is no proof of the pregnancy. He freely admits that regulating anything in between is extremely difficult, because there are no clear answers. His primary position in this regard is that the subject is simply NOT within the federal governments domain!

RP believes it is the governments role to protect the individual, and you must admit that at some point the fetus becomes an individual with rights. If a mugger attacks you at 8 months and kills your baby, he's guilty of murder.
It would be
inconsistent of RP to ignore the rights of that same unborn baby. Of course, the difficult
question here is when the fetus becomes that individual with rights, and I believe RP acknowledges this difficulty.

TTYTT, I find his views on abortion the most reasonable of any politician to date. All the blue and red staters imo are usually demagogue's on the issue, one way or the other.

>> He has stronger ties to the Christian Right than even Bush.

Now, I believe this is flat out incorrect, in every which way. Where's your source here?

>> He will cause havoc with our immigration policies.

Could you elaborate?

>> There's much more. If you are standing behind him ONLY for the health reform, then you are extremely deluded....unless you also support White Supremacists.....hate immigrants, don't care about women's rights and are a card carrying member of the Christian Right.

This is very strong talk... slanderous imo. But again if you are correct I'd like to retract my support before I give any more time, money, and reputation to the cause.

>> I do agree however with his views on the war in Iraq, and Health Reform, but the rest is simply abhorrent.

again strong language.

>> I take it back, he's not a dick, he's dangerous. The only good that will come from this is he will take some votes away from the Republicans.....

>> You were right in the beginning, political discussion belongs in the Politics Forum , NOT in Breaking News.

I believe that Ron Paul is one of the most important health related topics today.
At this time, the state of the health care industry is in shambles. The world health organization rates our health care industry 37th in the world. We have the HIGHEST per capita expenditures in the world. The most common reason for bankruptcy in the US is due to health care costs.

Now, the trend is toward is socializing the system... i.e. the prescription drug plan brought in by republicans. This is a disaster waiting to happen for regular working people. In these scenarios the government will tax you for your health care, and then decide what they consider worth reimbursing. If you want to alternative care, they will have the ability to deny payment, and you will have little recourse.

Ron Paul wants to let you keep your money, pretax, and decide when and where you spend the money. Did you know that the Dept of health and human services currently has approximately 60,000 employees. Your health tax dollars are paying for those jobs, and both the republicans and democrats seemingly want to hire more folks. You could be keeping this money in a health savings account and rolling it over every year, much like common retirement accounts.

I believe that Ron Paul likely has much more in common with you and I than do Romney or Hillary. I believe you and I would fare better under a Paul Presidency.

If you need to slander Ron Paul, so be it. But please make damn sure you're correct in your assertions. If you aren't sure in these assertions, please do some research and verify for yourself that you wouldn't actually prefer voting for him.

I do hope that you and others can leave the emotion out of the discussion, because people's mind are only changed when they are non-emotional. And clearly some folks in this thread are wrong, and it would be nice for all of us to come to accurate conclusions and vote accordingly.

I also understand that many democrats are so disgusted with Bush and his war that they'll do anything to vote the republicans out. I hope these people remember that the democrats in congress are now aiding and abetting the war, and every democrat candidate refused to promise to bring home the troups before the end of their first term. RP is willing to promise to get these folks home asap.
