I have found the best poison ivy / poison oak solution. Tecnu Extreme.
I have used Tecnu original for years. It was originally designed as a wash for radiation exposure. But it was discovered that it breaks down the volatile oils that spread poison oak etc. It also can be used to break down the oils if a skunk stays your dog. It is best used early. Like within hours of exposure. After you have a break out of rash or blisters it will stop the spreading but you have to just wait for the rash and itching to heal.
But the Tecnu Extreme is a body wash that will break down the oils, stop the spread, and heal the rash and stop the itching! On the Amazon testimonials it had people that had had to get hospital care and steroid injections in the past due to poison ivy reactions, but were able to treat it at home with Tecnu Extreme.
There is poison ivy everywhere here. I seem to be able to walk through it but my dog walked through it (apparently) and then sratched my chest with her paw. I used the Tecnu original once I figured out watch it was but the rash and itching were driving me crazy for over a week. It was making it hard to sleep. It burned if I got sun on it or sweated and I could not have clothes touch it. It stopped itching after using the Tecnu Extreme and the rash is gone with dead skin pealing in 2 days.
Chiggers are also new to me. A Q tip dipped in campho[r] phenique oil and rubbed on the spot gets them. They aren't like a mosquito bite, where they bite and leave. It's some tiny larvae that burrows into the skin and keeps irritation until you smother/ kill it.
I have very strong histamine reactions. Mosquitoes like me and a bite will last for over a week on me. If I take anti histamine within 30 min I can reduce that to lasting two days. If I take one immediately the bite reaction may never develop.
Also very hot water on an area that is reacting will burn out the histamine reaction and the itching will stop for awhile until the histamine are replaced.
I think a high stress life makes your body over reactive. It used a machine gun instead of a fly swatter so to speak. I'm hoping that as my stress reduces that I will get less reactive.
