Another week. Another trip to the Farmer's market!
I got bunches and bunches of spinach and a huge plaited rope of garlic. The piece of ginger root I got is twice the size of my hand....and so fresh!
I've decided, for my last few days fasting, to try and tip the scales even more in favour of vegetables over fruits for juicing.
I estimate I've been juicing 70% veges, 30% fruit most days.
I have a sweet tooth. I'd like to try and knock out sugar of my diet altogether. I remember doing an anti candida diet for the best part of a year and how the one piece of fruit (a granny smith apple) per day came to taste so sweet and delicious!
I don't give my children much sugar....just a little in the baking I do once a week. Even then, I've adapted recipes so I can get away with using 1/3 the amount. I'm keen to try stevia sometime.
We don't eat desserts, often we have some fresh fruit, so no problem there. We don't have sweets or icecream or anything like that in the house. DH doesn't crave it and the kids basically don't even know it exists so that's easy for us. No willpower required on my part either.
....My problem comes when I have my mid morning pick-me-up coffee with a spoonful of sugar, and often a little something sweet on the side. For the past 3 1/2 years (since having kids), thats been my (almost daily) treat to myself! A little bit of time out, coffee and some amaretti, or ginger slice...or similar. I would NEVER give anything that sweet to my kids and I have finally come to the conclusion that if it's not good enough for them then it's probably not good enough for me.
One purpose of this juice fast was to help me refocus on what good food really is. Usually I'm too busy feeding all the little mouths to even take all that much notice what goes into mine, much less enjoy it! Also, to help me (force me!!!) to give up my daily cup of coffee - strong espresso, and (usually) sweet accompaniment. Hopefully I'm retuning my tastebuds. My kids think a plum is pure heaven! So should I!
I seem to have lost a pants size somewhere along the last week!
This wasn't a particular goal, but I am carrying a bit - 15lbs??? - more weight than I was before I first got pregnant. Well, obviously LESS than 15lbs now. It's all a bit of a guess, we don't have bathroom scales so I have to go by how my clothes fit :o)

Today's Low Point: The inflammatory condition that flares up with me every now and then is getting worse. Quite painful in my feet. I guess this has been triggered by toxin release??
