Lunch(haha)time. So far so good...I think!
I do have a headache developing though. That'll be the coffee withdrawal. *Sigh*. I only have one cup a day, a strong espresso, usually at a cafe on the corner while I read the newspaper. It's usually an important part of my day. I feel like a part of the big wide world for a half hour. The kids visit with my mother for a while each morning, and on the days she can't have them I take them to a different cafe which has a fabulous play area....so I still get to have the all important coffee and world news catch-up (we don't watch television).
The caffeine kick keeps me going through the morning usually! Today I've had to settle for a newspaper from the paper shop to read with my lunchtime juice. And a headache. Blah!!
On a happier note, I made the kids some baby beet and apple juice this morning and they loved it!! It's not too tricky to rustle them up a quick juice before breakfast. Got to be good for them!
First thing this morning I had a half a squeezed lemon in hot water. I remember reading years ago that this was good for toxin elimination. (Perhaps in a Leslie Kenton book? She first introduced me to short juice fasts back in the early 1990's.)
I had a nice tall glass of apple, ginger, beet and celery around breakfast time. I got the ginger idea from one of Dazzle's recipe posts - it sure gave my juice some kick!
Yesterday at the Farmer's Market I bought a whole lot of "spray free" fruit. Not certified organic, but the growers are friends of friends and I know their produce is good. I have organic cabbage, tomatoes, baby beets and cucumber, but my celery and spinach are not organic. Ideally I'd have all organic of course, but I wasn't going to let the fact I couldn't achieve that stop me from starting juicing. My perfectionist ideals are a little hazy these days. Having 3 kids in as many years can do that....impossible to do everything 100% all the time! Although we have always tried to put an emphasis on good nutrition.
My lunchtime juice was parsley, cucumber, carrot and spinach. Very easy to drink, that'll be the carrot! I remembered from past fasts that I needed to put the parsley through first to get the most juice out. I have an old style centrifugal juicer (difficult to clean - blah!), but it does seem to leave me with a very dry pulp so I feel I'm getting good value out of my veges.
I still need to look into this salt water flush business...especially now I've got a headache. Also need to find out if there's an ideal quantity of juice I should be drinking per day??? I know I need to be drinking more water too. That's my cue to go refill....
I'll update again at the end of today, day 2.
Z.
