More Merry Merry Month of May Wandering
more hotel walking and thoughts of future gardening
Date: 5/24/2006 6:00:20 PM ( 18 y ) ... viewed 2366 times Here in Colorado, May is a hot hot month, mostly. Because I work 50+ hours a week at my "career" and choose to also keep my alternative health studio going in my "spare time", my yard is not being tended to as I would like to tend to it. I would like to water the fruit trees, the lilac bushes, the poor suffering rosebush, well basically everything in the yard including the lawn. It doesn't even look like a lawn.
Just doing that would be lots of exercise, if I could create the time & energy to do it.
I have done some walking since my last message here.
Last weekend I attended parts of an alternative health & healing conference and got some amazing walking opportunities. The hotel was big and the room where I stayed the first night was at the end of the complex farthest from where the convention events were taking place. I did have my trusty pedometer with me and in walking from the event room to my hotel room and back 3 different times was almost 1/2 mile. There's a long narrow addition to the hotel that runs way back along the creek and the addition is where they put last minute registrants like me.
What was neat about this walk between my room and the events is that I could just walk back and forth either indoors in the long winding hallway or outdoors along the creek path in between events/speakers and get in some exercise while remaining at the conference and still seeing the other conference participants in passing!
That walking was really energizing. Altogether during the event I walked several miles just doing the back and forth from one end of the hotel complex to the other!
That's not the only walking I've done. I've been doing walks in my neighborhood, 3-4 times a week. But I keep thinking I should concentrate my energy on taking care of my yard instead of extraneous walking.
Just thinking out loud here...this year I wish I had gotten a sprinkler system. Then my yard would not be so dry.
Watering isn't allowed in the heat of the day here, just in the cool of the evening, night, and early AM.
All the times when I'm either at work or sleeping.
What I need is someone else who takes care of my yard. Ah, to be of the leisure class that affords such niceties!
It's so calming, grounding, and relaxing to work in the yard.
It's been nice to be doing these walks, too.
I think of the time when my kids were young, walking a lot was just a given, a built-in part of each busy active day.
Thanks for listening to my thoughts.
