February 28, 2011

Wow, today was something else. I was up really early (around 3:00 a.m.) as the peel of thunder woke up me and Mekong. Since I fell asleep early, I was fully awake for a while. I got out of bed and looked out the window. I noticed that that an amount of water was collecting in the intersection beside my trailer. My trailer sits on a lot that faces the main roadway in the park, and a cul de sac is right off of the road. My drive way is on the right as you drive into the cul de sac. In the past, water has collected in the intersection, but it never has gotten as bad as it was last night. My trailer is on a slight hill and my drive way is on an incline so when it it started to creep up, I started watching it over the next couple hours (while I read my book and slept a little bit). Around 5:00, I watched my neighbor, Connie, move her van into her yard and onto higher ground. I finally went outside and saw that my yard looked like a pond. I walked my way to my car, and realized that I had water in my car, so I also started it and tried to move it into my back yard. I was very hesitant about it, because the area right to the left of my the back wall of my trailer (my bedroom's back wall) has always been very squishy when it rains. My neighbor told me that I should chance it anyway, even if I get stuck, as least I will be higher and out of the water more. I did get stuck. While I waited for my other neighbor to show up and help me move my car, I walked around in the cold water in my night gown and long black coat, I went to my other neighbors' houses that clearly didn't know it was flooding. I woke up two of them, and told them they probably wanted to move their cars into their yards. There was no way of knowing how much higher it would get. I was wandering around in the water, when my one neighbor, Connie, told me that I might want to get out of the water, before I got hyperhemia. I told her I was just walking around in it, until Billy came to help me with my car, because if I get out, I am NOT getting back in the water. It was as simple as that. Soon, my far neighbor Billy, (the guy that mows my lawn for me) then helped me get it unstuck and move it to higher ground. It probably wasn't smart to my front window down, as the my front wheels were spinning mud around and into my car. LOL. The inside of my car will look really horrible due to being covered with mud. At least I got it up into my back yard, which was higher ground and safe. I then talked to my neighbors a bit from across the water way for a bit, and then went into the house. I shed my wet socks and soaked shoes and dry coat at the door (as I help it up above the water, any time I walked in it as it was a long back wool trench coat).

When I got back into my house it was just a little bit past 6:00 a.m. I decided to call my boss and tell him there was no way I was going to be able to come into work, since my street was flooded so badly. I didn't expect him to answer, but he did. I told him the situation, and he understood and he would seem me tomorrow if everything went better later in the day.

I should have waited to allow my legs and feet to get warmer, as they were freezing now that I had gotten out of the water. Stupid me, I jumped in the shower, wasn't the smartest thing I ever did. It made my feet swell a bit and it wasn't comfortable either. Afterwards I got back into bed with my book and turned on a movie to have a little of noise in my room. I fell back to sleep only to be woken up by my phone. The office was calling for some reason. It was the secretary wondering if I was coming in. I told her that I couldn't come in as my street and yard was flooded. It was clear that the attorney didn't tell the secretary that I wouldn't be in today. I told her how I had to walk in it and try and get my car to higher ground. After I got off the phone with her, I looked out the window, so where where the water was. It didn't seem to be getting any higher, but it didn't seem to be going down either. I spend a little bit of time texting my best friend about the flood waters. She told me to be careful if I did go anywhere. Part of me wanted to go somewhere! It isn't like human nature to be like that. When you can't drink the water due to a water main break , that is when you are dying for a glass of water! LOL Since I couldn't go anywhere, I really wanted to go somewhere. I wandered around my house a bit and then went outside for a bit. Connie, my neighbor, noticed me on my deck and she came out on hers and asked me if something was wrong. I told her “No, I am just really bored since I can't go anywhere now.” She said “ I know that feeling” and went back inside. As I stood on my deck, I realized that it stopped raining. I was looking around, as my most of my deck was surrounded by water. I looked to the tree, and I was something amazing. I saw a Robin. He was just sitting there on a branch. It made me smile a little bit, because to me that is a positive sign of Spring, just like some type of flood is a negative sign. You can say that I like balance and I was glad I was able to find the balance to it.

I went back into the house, put in a different movie, and settled back down on my bed to relax. I was watching the first part of the movie Wanted, when my phone rang again. It was my Dad! I answered it quickly, as my Dad just doesn't call me, especially in the morning. It was my stepmother telling me that she took my father to the hospital this morning because his blood oxygen was low. I began to worry, but she said that he is in good hands. His blood oxygen was low and she got in quickly, and the hospital staff took care of him right away. I guess my Dad was telling her that she had to call me and let me know. It made me feel good that my Dad was thinking about me when he was being settled in to his hospital room. My stepmother had to run home and get a couple things and called me as soon as she had a minute or two. I am very happy they notified me this time. Last time, no one called me or let me know that he was in the hospital. I found out from my sister's Facebook page. It really irritated me at that time that I was left out of the loop. You can say that I even stepped farther back away from my father, because of the thoughtlessness of my stepmother and my siblings. I stepped back because I was hurt and didn't want to be constantly reminded that it was clear that I wasn't part of the family. It was during one of my last fasts that my stubbornness was broken, and I called him, which was on my heart. It is always on my heart to call my father. My stepmother reassured me that he wasn't in too much danger. She was just calling me, as my Dad instructed her to do.

After the phone call, I tried to relax, but it was a bit hard. Soon, I got a text message. I looked at it and it was a picture message of my father laying in a hospital bed, saying Hi and I love you. It made me cry. I had never seen my father in a hospital bed before and it really shook me up hard. I ended up crying a bit because seeing my father in a hospital gown and in bed. I know that it wasn't sent to upset me, but to let me know that he is okay and that he loves me. Still, I wasn't prepared for it, as I still worry about losing my father to his health. After a little bit and I felt better about it, I texted him back and told him that I loved him so very much.

My day was pretty boring, as the water was going down really slow. By noon, I could only see a little bit of the top of my drive way, which was an improvement, but not much.

Since I was bored, I munched on food most of the day. Good think there isn't anything horrible to eat in my house. I ate cucumbers, celery, carrots, a couple crackers with some cheese and pumpkin seeds. I really enjoyed the pumpkin seeds. It was hard to put them down, as they are sooooOoooo good! I just wish they were unsalted. It is really hard to find unsalted ones, unless I buy them online. I am sure that I will be blowing up like a balloon tomorrow LOL My body is not used that that much salt, but I couldn't help it. It is funny how lately I enjoy carrots so much as well.

My lunch and dinner was simple. Salmon with veggies. I could have made a sirloin burger, but I wasn't craving red meat, so I stuck with eating my fish as usual. It was good.

The water didn't start really getting down until around 5:00 p.m. I went outside, along with a lot of my neighbors and picked up debris and other things like trash cans that floated away a bit. My trashcan, and my bucket floated into my yard, as well as someone's pink cooler. LOL I found myself picking up sticks out of my yard, before I started to straighten my skirting on my trailer. My neighbor's skirting looked as bad as mine. Billy, one of my far neighbors, told me it was because people was driving through the high water, and causing the skirting to be pushed in like that. I couldn't get the skirting underneath my deck fixed so I will have to crawl under there when it is nicer out as well as drier.

After the water was all drained (as one of the park property managers, was out there raking the drain so it would drain!), I immediately jumped in my car and left for a while. I noticed all the nearby farm fields were filled with water, but I didn't see any across the road where I was going. I went to the grocery store to pick up a couple things like milk, as Mekong was crying for some all day.

It was just nice to get out. I didn't buy a whole lot, just a couple more veggies. I think I was just happy to walk around the grocery store for a bit. There wasn't a lot of people in the store at the time. I was surprised to see snow piles around still. I would have thought that all of it was melted from the snow, but I guess not. I felt that was really weird. I know that the majority of the flooding was because he had gotten like 5 or 6 inches of snow Thursday night/Friday morning. And the melting and the rain, just made the ground way too soaked to take anymore of it. So we flooded. It was the first time, in the five years I have lived in my trailer that I have ever seen it flood like that. Water might clog up in the street a little bit, but nothing like it did today. One of my neighbor's said that the last time it flooded like that out here was in 1993. Wow!

I got home and I felt so much better, and not as restless as I was feeling earlier in the day. I am just so used to working 8 hours a day, when I don't have that used up by my job, then I struggle to keep myself preoccupied. That is why weekends can be a little bit hard for me. Even after two years of working just one job, I still struggle with boredom on the weekends and such. I worked on weekends for 14 years, and I am sure it will take me a little bit longer to get used to the extra time I have now. LOL

I can't remember what time I fell asleep, because I took so many naps during the day, but it didn't seem to harm me much, as I did sleep, even if it was broken up with me getting up to go to the bathroom.
