Day Twenty-One
A personal journey to health and freedom through water fasting
Date: 6/16/2010 2:19:54 PM ( 14 y ) ... viewed 1775 times As you know, today marks the end of Phase one of this journey. Tomorrow I am going to transition to juicing for about a week or so, then mostly raw vegetables for the remainder of Phase two. After that, if all goes well, I plan to start another round of water fasting. Hopefully, this will help to reset my body image at a lower weight, help me go deeper into detoxification and continue the healing which has begun in earnest during Phase one.
Today was weigh-in day:
Beginning weight: 242 lbs
Today's weight: 210.4 lbs
Total weight lost in 20 days: 31.6 lbs.
I know that sounds like a lot (and I guess in the grand scheme of things it is, but keep in mind it still only represents about 13% of my total body weight. At my size, the weight loss is noticible, but not newsworthy. One of the good things about juicing and resting, is that it gets people used to seeing the smaller version of me, so that the next round of weight loss will not be so shocking (or create unwanted questions!)
After I start taking in calories, I am going to hit the exercise like I am training for the olympic games. Right now, my metabolism is in the basement. Normally, it takes 4-6 weeks to recover from the dip in metabolism caused by fasting. This is the time when people (not realizing this little fact) go back to eating a normal diet, in normal-sized portions, and put all the weight back on that they lost in the fast. Correct refeeding is SO important if you want to keep the gains you made during fasting. It can all go out the window in a matter of weeks. But people do it all the time, because they never took the time to learn to do it right.
Had positive proof my eyesight is definitely improved. Woke up this morning (after 9 straight uninterrupted hours of sleep) and looked across the room, and could see what time it was on my digital clock! O happy day! I also drove to the grocery store (and back again!) without wearing my glasses. Forgot to put them on when I left the house... Had no troubles.
Here's something interesting that has come about because of this fast. I never acquired a taste for dill. Something about the tang of it never appealed to me. Well, at the store, I passed the live herb section (in garden dept) and picked up the smell of fresh dill. Heavenly! I stood there with my nose in this plant, oblivious to the strange stares of people passing by. I had to buy two little plants to put in my garden!
Well, my greatest challenge now lies ahead of me... No, it's not the refeeding starting tomorrow. Tonight (in a couple of hours, I am heading to my kitchen to cook a meal for someone (a meals on wheels kind of deal). I LOVE to cook. I am making baked ham with brown sugar/mustard glaze, garlic mashed potatoes, and sauteed zucchini and yellow squash. This is my "Master's Thesis" of fasting! Talk about control! I can't even taste-test my garlic mashed potatoes! ...OH, the humanity!!!
Be blessed!
