Re: How can you believe in AA if you dont believe in God.

Wow... wasnt able to check my post last night but did first thing this morning at work. I am sitting here in my cube with tears a flowing. Very touched by the responses. Also really scared about taking the next step. AA is something that I know that I have needed for the past couple of years but have always found a way to rationalize my way out.

The comment from Richard,: "Toxnomore… there is one thing I know without a doubt, and that is if something doesn’t change in your life, you keep drinking like you are, in a year or two from now, you will call what is going on in your life right now “The Good Old Days” Things will get worse." really struck home. I know that if I blow this off my life will get worse. I also know that if I follow through that things will eventually get better. When I think of things getting better and as I become more successful with work that I will want to celebrate. I cant picture being able to celebrate with an orange juice. The permanence of not drinking really is not appealing. I guess thats what you would call addiction.

So how do I throw away 20 years of habit, friends and identity without ever returning? I have a colleague at work that is an alcoholic. Should I approach him? Part of my fear is having people find out at work and at home. Do you have to call an AA office or just show up?
