Re: Be careful of advice on circumventing the hospital or

It is a complicated issue because physicians have their hands tied many times. There's a reason why malpractice insurance for OB docs is $160,000 in my state. If you sue, you can get 5 million easy. Also, if you take a survey of 100 OB docs and asked whether they'd rather do a C section vs natural, I'm pretty sure most of them would say vaginal. The incease in C-sections in the US is due to defensive medicine. If a physician sees a deceleration in heartbeat and tries delivering naturally and something goes wrong, or even if the baby has a congenital defect that arose before delivery, they can get sued because the parents and the lawyer will say "why didn't you do a C-section". In today's world, especially in OB/GYN, you don't get second chances. Keep looking, you should be able to find a midwife who is willing to help you. Also, if you end up going to a hospital and stick to your guns, you don't have to have a C-section unless you sign a consent. Medico-legally you can't be forced to have a C-section. You might also want to have written proof expressing your wishes in case someone deems you unresponsive or unable to make sound judgement.
