Thank you for your post! I am doing what I can to try to make a difference and I hope that more women out there are speaking up on this. It is a serious issue because hopsitals and doctors soo willing to jump to C-sections puts a far greater risk to the mother. The mother is the one who will need to care of the baby and if she dies it is devasting. It has literally crippled my family. I didn't even know my cousin very well but it still hit me like a ton of bricks. Aparently every time someone undergoes any type of surgery they have a chance of dying. That is why they have them sign that paper. Surgery is serious and it should not be rushed into- its not safer than VBAC. Surgery can be great when it is used for a REAL emergency but the high C-section rate in this country shows that many people and doctors are jumping into surgery too soon. That rate is too high. Arizona is really bad!
I have been writing letters to State of Arizona to try and change the laws of allowing midwives to do VBAC at home. There are 2 naturpathic doctors here in the Valley who are legally able to deliver VBAC at home yet I don't have the money to afford it. One Great doctor is by the name of Farrah Swan. She was soo sweet. She just costs $3500 for the prenatal care and birth. I wish I could go with her but my husband and I are living paycheck to paycheck. She agreed on payments but they are 400 per month because she has to be paid before the birth. We don't have that much extra money to afford that high of a payment. I am still trying to see if a can get a loan for this but our credit is not the best.
It would be nice to have Farrah deliver my baby at home but I can't have that luxury. I trust God that everything will be fine and I will let you all know how everything goes. :)
