Aye, but the study references iodates, which is Iodine in the +5 odixization state, which makes it a powerful oxidizer. Mixed with sugar, it can be ignited to form a rocket fuel, akin to perchlorate. Perchlorate is not chloride, any more than iodate is iodide, so your citation of a reference to iodate is non-sequitur.
