Problem is that the insurance companies believe that high LDL levels are bad; no matter the myth. I am recently retiring and had to find some health insurance other than my company supported one. I have had elevated cholesterol for a number of years. Doesn't bother me. Probably stress related anyway. Retirement will fix that. Anyway, the level (230) was barely ok for the insurance company; and I did get the insurance. My doctor wants me to aggressively fix the problem. I don't want to outlive my retirement.
